I'm not a mechanic by any stretch, but I'm learning and have been fortunate to have been able to pick the brains of guys that have seen these machines inside and out. The throw out bearing can sometimes come off hard, but a small gear puller worked well for me. Parts are readily available, make sure you replace the pressure plate, and carrier bearing on the end of the splined shaft in the clutch hub. I was lucky, and all my bolts came out, no smoke wrench required👍👍. manufacturers names Hydraulic Pump Drive Shaft Coupler fits John Deere 4520. If you do end up tearing into it, it's a lot of grunt work, but fairly simple to do. Pick up replacement or heavy duty u joints, driveshaft safety loops, bolts. to test the brakes fo adjustment pull the steering levers back all the way tractor. There's a fine line between the clutch releasing and the brake band catching, it's almost simultaneous. the free travel is approx 1 1/2 inches before the clutch starts to engage.

Adjustment on these is a bit finicky, make sure you have an owners manual and follow it closely. A local retired JD mechanic told me once you could put your blade against something solid, and try spinning the tracks, sometimes this will break the rust on the steel plates free. Moisture is a pretty common problem with the dry clutches. If I'm not mistaken, both later B and C models had oil bathed self adjusting clutch packs. This Clutch Adjusting Gauge is used to adjust the Engine clutch and steering Clutch on the MC, 40, 420, 430, 440I, 440IC, 440ICD, 440ID, 1010, and 350 models.

I've seen that a full clutch rebuild kit is around $600 each but if it's just warn discs/pads they can be replaced individually and are a lot less expensive. I have 125psi on the vavle but as soon as I shift out of. It has new clutches in both clutch packs, all new rings and the collector has been redone. I have taken the reverser out of this crawler and rebuilt it and have it reinstalled. The guy is selling for $5000 which seems to be a good price but I realize it will need some clutch work.Ĭan you please help me with 3 questions.ġ) based on those symptoms, how serious do you think the clutch issue is. Be sure valves are traveling properly, no bent linkage, etc. Problem probably lies within the steering control valve. By going with the Bimetalic discs, the additional cost is a total of 80.00 for one steering clutch.

You can replace the fiber discs with the Bi-metallic discs above, using the same quantities, and eliminate a lot of problems with broken fiber teeth and the bonding of the fiber discs to the steel discs due to moisture and inactivity. but even then, it's still not what it should be. The Dozer runs pretty strong, steers fine in reverse but hardly steers at all in forward. first, adjust the clutch bolt to 3 and 3/4' 'freeplay' from top of pedal to where you feel the fingers of the clutch contact the throw-out bearing.Back off the adjustmrnt inside the clutch housing rubber plug so the pressure drops off to about lets say 50 lbs. Hi, I found a dozer for sale that I think I might be interested in but it has a steering clutch problem. The steel line is steering.The HLR adjustment nut should be somewhere midway from top to bottom of threads.
